We've had lows of -20 F (-30 C) with zero snowcover.

Sometimes it's very cold and very dry here... usually in early winter.

That is true, but quite rare in Dallas at 32N latitude WITH an urban heat island.

Actually an urban heat island would make it more likely that it'll be dry when it's very cold...

I hope there were no tourists there expecting nice mild winter temps, since most would probably have little to no winter clothing.

I can imagine that in much of the U.S. southeast, such frigid weather usually brings snow, because it displaces regular mild and humid air.

Here you get alot of people who wear shirts and shorts in winter, presumably to look cool and/or sexy or tough and impressive for the opposite sex.

There were 2 guys at my school, whom I've NEVER seen wearing a jumper OR long pants.

Well last winter here in Michigan wasn't severely cold, but it was cold consistently with very few thaws.....I love the big storms that come up out of the south and dump a good 14 or 15 inches. Last winter we actually had a decent 14 inch event, it was nice fluffy stuff! Fun! It took days to dig out the driveway though, but hopefully we get more of the same this year!
