I really want to become a Meteorologist, so i always wanted to know...living in california for most of my life i always wondered, Why the Western US for most of the Year has a Strong High Pressure Ridge , what causes it to create Dry and Hot Conditions especially in the Summertime and Why also is the Jet Stream always far to the North?
I'll have to venture to guess that lack of moisture keeps the ridge of High Pressure there....since about 60% of the western U.S is very arid. And that High Pressure ridge is what keeps the Jet Stream from moving further south.

I know ...that's what i figured... it even is prevelent in the winter time..there's still a high pressure ridge...but at least it's cooler...
the super Strong High Pressure Ridge doesnt happen nearly as much on the East Coast and it's probably because of what you said...about the abundance of moisture on the eastern US.
^^
Also, in the wintertime you guys get lots of Low Pressure systems from the Pacific....so those actually weaken the High Pressure Ridge and allow the Jet Stream to move south.

by the way it's good to blog with some one that actually likes COLD FRIGID Weather.... =) Most everyone is afraid of sub freezing temperatures...you know..
and also it's probably gonna be packed in South Florida with the "Snowbirds" flocking there for the wintertime... =)
You should Consider moving to a Cold Climate that's what im gonna do soon ..i live in Cali...and it's still in the Upper 90's here...my god...lol

It's Brutal here and very very dry!!!
Oh yes, dude I love FRIGID weather. And Duluth, MN and Fairbanks, AK are #1 and #2 on my list.!!!!. Once I graduate from HS......man, I'm hightailing my a** outta here, son!!!
Still in the 85-92 range here.....but the humidity is a bit lower.
I like snow though......and Fairbanks "only" gets about 67 inches a year....meanwhile the Green Mountains of VT get 200 inches.

yeah pretty much anywhere in Northern Upstate New York near the Snow belt ..there it snows about 250 to 300 inches of snow a year average ...pretty much anywhere in Northern New England is perfect for Snow and cold..dude..
another thing... cold weather doesn't drain your energy like Hot weather does... it wakes me up when it's cold outside... .i love it..
if i won the lottery i'd have already bought a Log cabin In Northern Vermont by now....you know... that would be complete Perfection right there...dude.. and in the summer time it rarely gets in the Upper 80's there.... it's just an awesome place..dude.
^^
You know where Island Pond, VT is? That's the coldest spot in VT usually and they average 150 inches a year.
I like Old Forge, NY.....they average 252 inches of snow a year and they have the coldest temperature ever record in NY (-52)
