Unprecedented heat for northern Saab Island

Record temperatures are forecast for most of Saab Island over the coming week as an unusually strong and long lasting heat low develops over Australia's Pilbara. As the heat low develops, temps up to 48C are forecast in parts of the Pilbara, and these temps will extend up into Saab Island as southerly to southwesterly winds establish over the region, bringing heat directly from the roasting Pilbara. Saab Island Met senior forecaster Martin Rogan says that this will be an "unprecedented event". "Temps in the northern and northeastern regions of the country will top 50C towards the end of the week, when the heat low over NW AUstralia reaches greatest intensity, and that is ontop of 4-5 days of constant heat producing SW'ly winds generated by the strenghening low. Temps in Sabtown are expected to reach never before seen levels with both high and low records to be broken, with temps up to 50ºC during the day and possibly not dropping below 37ºC at night, depending on wind strength and direction. It is remotely possible that the overnight low could stay above 40ºC on Friday night should winds be fresh and gusty throught the night from the south/southwest. Should that occur, it will be a historic event for not only Saab Island, but on a world scale, as only 2 places on earth are known to have had an overnight low over 40C - Death Valley and the Danakil Depression in Eithiopea. Such high temps have never occured in any resonably populated city anywhere in the world". Temps in are also expected to crack 52 ºC in parts of the north, including Mercury and Mackenzie.

Residents have been warned to prepare, to stock up on drinking water, batteries to power fans, generators, lights etc in the event of power failures, and other cooling implements and ice, and emergency services are preparing for the likelyhood of dozens or even hundreds of casualties. " Residents should be aware of the seriousness of the situation. We urge people to be proactive...stock up on ice, cold drinks- preferably water, batteries to power any fans and if portable generators are available, make sure they are in working order, as the electricity grid will likely buckle under the expected massive electricity usage load". Do not drive to any remote locations unless absolutely unnecessary, as cars could easily breakdown in such conditions, and to be stranded in temps exceeding 50C far from any help could be potentially deadly" warned Mr Rogan.

Businesses have already restructured working hours from 6am until 11am or Midday from Monday Feb 22 until further notice.

The south of the island, while still expected to be hot with temps in the low to mid 40's, will escape the brunt of the unprecendented heatwave, as the southwesterlies will be slightly cooled by the Port Hedland Straight at the immediate coastline.

Can those temps be found in California?
Central CA, not too far from the sea?
I know the precip is backwards though
I'm not sure you could find monthly averages like that somewhere that isn't Meditteranean.

*Though not my fave, I would find your ideal climate "agreeable"...
so long as it was easy to heat my house to 72+ F in winter.

I'd prefer somewhere with warmer summers It's basically Melbourne with slightly colder winters.

And I'd prefer a heck-of-a-lot warmer summers too!!!
My ideal summer has heat indexes of 100+ F (38+ C) EVERY AFTERNOON!

But I already live in a climate that sucks most of the year,
so it would be a big improvement.
tvdxer's climate looks "mild enough" I could ignore it, most of the time.
*tvdxer's climate also has warmer summers than Melbourne.

The mean dewpoint is around 19-22C during the summer months. Most rain happens as heavy but brief summer thunderstorms mostly during the evening hours. Winters are relatively dry and sunny.
Heatwaves are common and the record temperature for the location is 48.9C (120F).

Richard, your temperatures seem pretty similar to Dallas, TX's climate.

Here's mine:

January:

Average high around 30. Average low around 10.
Lots of snow, some sleet, and maybe a day or two where temperatures warm up enough for rain. About 15-20 days of cloudy weather with some precipitation. The rest partly cloudy to mostly sunny.

February:

Average high around 35. Average low around 15.
Lots of snow, some sleet, and a few days of rain. About 15-20 days of cloudy weather with some precipitation. The rest partly cloudy to mostly sunny.

March:

Average high around 43. Average low around 24.
A few snow storms, some sleet, and several days of rain. About 15-20 days of cloudy weather with some precipitation. The rest partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Still relatively cool and cloudy, but maybe a couple days at the end of the month where temperatures flirt with 60.

April:

Average high around 54. Average low around 30.
One or two winter weather events early on in the month that bring some snow, sleet, or cold rain. Some rainy days. About 10-15 days of cloudy weather with some precipitation. The rest partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Some warm, sunny days where temperatures flirt with 70. The beginning of the month would still be late winter like, but more spring like weather would arrive by the middle to latter part of the month.

May:

Average high around 66. Average low around 40.
Some days that bring showers or thunderstorms. A majority of the month would be sunny and mild though, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Some days would flirt with 80 by the end of the month. Not too much rain, but enough to keep things green and lakes and streams in full supply.

June:

Average high around 75. Average low around 50.
Pretty much the same as May, although slightly warmer with most days in the 70s and 80s. Sunny for a majority of the month.

July:

Average high around 80. Average low around 55-60.
Sunny and warm, but not humid. Typical summer showers and storms, but sunny most of the time.

August:

Average high around 80. Average low around 55-60.
Same as July.

September:

Average high around 73. Average low around 46.
Sunny and warm most of the time with temperatures in the 70s, but things would begin to cool off by the end of the month with daytime highs in the 50s and 60s.

October:

Average high around 57. Average low around 37.
Sunny with temperatures in the 50s most days. Some 40s by the end of the month.

November:

Average high around 46. Average low around 27.
Weather turns much more cloudy and wet. Many dry cloudy days, but several days with rain. First snow event would occur as well.

December:

Average high around 37. Average low around 15.
Cloudy, snowy, and wet most of the time.

Ironically this isn't too far off from where I live. Just slightly cooler averages and more clouds and precipitation during the fall and winter. Less humidity during the summer months.

My ideal climate would be very simple to describe:
basically every month of the year with averages around:

High: 90F (32C)
Low: 75F (24C)

and just enough rain to keep everything green mainly in the form of afternoon showers or at night with the majority of days to be sunny and dry. Humidity around 60-80%. Record lows no lower than 55-60F and record highs maybe 110F.
If I could live in a climate like that, it would be awesome!!

His summers are virtually identical to ours in his dream climate.

I like your temps,
but I have a preference for climates that have surprisingly-low humidity relative to precip-totals.

I wouldn't mind morning humidity in the 60-80% range,
but having that every afternoon might get old after a while.

*Do you crave humidity with your heat because you live in Vancouver?
