I dunno, but it was probably only 20 degrees outside and the wind was blowing. It really was cold where that poor gal was standing.

Reynauds is not good, and can be a sign of scleroderma, which is worse. Can't believe she works near a cold area. Cold hands and feet are awful, I have low blood pressure plus low temp, my hands and feet are always cold.

Yet I like to sleep in a cool room, with lots of blankets and my feet have to be warm. I usually nuke my "bed buddy" for my feet!

What's that? (I definitely have Reynauds)

I can't stand a cool room,
because when I try sleeping under a mountain of blankets,
I can break out into a sweat I'm so hot but my toes are still ICE.
If it's very cool, (say an unheated room under 65 F)
it's impossible for my toes to feel normal even under the covers.

When the room is 75 F or higher,
my toes do not need to be warmed up,
they feel perfect already,
or the instant they touch the sheets.

40 F?
Ha ha...
(I mean I sympathize with your first nasty jolt of cold weather )

*We've already had a high at 15 F,
with an afternoon windchill of -5 F.
The cold was FIERCE all day long,
even in windless spots.

I now understand what ColdCanadian is saying when it comes to complete "night darkness" in the middle of the day. It was as dark as midnight starting at about 11AM today and continued the rest of the day. It was noted, and I think I am now ready for one sunny day again.

Was that your first ever experience?

Yes but aren't sunny days rare?
I've seen 3 or 4 sunny days in about 3 weeks.
I've seen 3 or 4 other days that were partly cloudy in the same time.
The rest of it is either light overcast or dark overcast.

**For other's that still don't underdstand,
it is when it is just dark enough that some photocells turn on certain streetlights (most street lights still stay off) in the middle of the day.

It definitely wasn't my first experience
However, I have previously lived at a much further south latitude location for many years. I generally prefer the lower sun angle of the northern tier.
Most days here in northern New England are light overcast days if they occur. Dark overcast days are a little less common, but it was especially dark today with photocells turning on at 11AM.
We get far more partly cloudy to sunny days during the winter compared with locales closer to the Great Lakes I believe.
I also think that the sun angle plays huge role this time of year depending on latitude.

AWWWW, I know exactly what you're saying about needing a "foot warmer" at night.

Tex, you guys definitely are having a touch of winter down there. I couldn't believe how chilly it is and so far south into Tx., too.

I see you're in D.C.
I've been there in summer; much nicer than Toronto since there's no "coolness."

Even with our harsh winters, I'd even be happier if our seasons were balanced:

-winter nearly-always cold, extreme cold a good possibility for a few days
-summer nearly-always somewhat hot, extreme heat a good possibility for a few days

But in Toronto it's:

-winter nearly-always cold, extreme cold a good possibility for a few days
-summer nearly-always cool-to-warm, moderately hot weather a possibility,
extreme heat a possibility once in a decade
OH no, I don't live in DC; I have never even been there, my initials are DC

I am in Indianapolis, I think the climate is similar here, though we have more tornadoes over here.

I have always wanted to visit Toronto. One day I will; perhaps in February

And all the snow from last weekend has melted and it doesn't look like any snow is coming in the next week. I am hoping for a bright, sunny, white Christmas!
