It woke me up just after 5:00 a.m. Our lawn furniture on the deck was blown over, a very heavy cover that goes on lamp to the entrance of a condo complex ended up in our back yard somehow, and our neighbor's roof shingles were on our driveway. When I went t the post office this morning I saw power lines down, tree branches and limbs down. We just got rid of all our very old (50+), breaking in the wind trees; otherwise our yard would have been full of branches and limbs. Precipitation the last 24 hours 1.07 inches.

KC weather sure is HORRIBLE on the trees isn't it?
I know when I lived there I was always pruning the trees every couple of years due to the violent storms.
One of the most storm resistant trees is the Red Oak.
If you chopped all of your older trees down, however, it could negatively impact your property value. Several relators I know have told me this.
A tree-lined street and properly trimmed trees equal $$ in terms of resale.

When I wanted to cut a huge maple right by my fence and garage, tree service talked me into just trimming it back. He said that tree is a focal point of your back yard, I wouldn't do it.
I am glad branches over the garage were trimmed though with all the heavy snows and winds we've had. Now we're getting rain turning over to sleet and snow tonight, I feel better with the tree shaped nicely, worth the money.

Rained all day yesterday, at times quite heavy for December. At least I didn't have to get out the snowblower to get rid of this precipitation, it ran out of the drive on it's own. Any time that happens in the winter months is a bonus. We received .93" of rain yesterday.
