Default High School Kids refuse to wear a coat even if it is sub zero weather

Have you noticed that kids refuse to wear a coat now days even if it is below 0. I noticed that recently. They will wear a Hoddie or basic sweat shirt even if the wind chill factor is 40 Below.

Why do kids refuse to acknowledge it is cold out there?

They're probably like me and hate feeling so confined in a coat and snowboots, etc. But actually, I do bundle up cause I hate the cold.

For some reason or other, when I was younger the cold didn't feel as awful to me as it does now. When I was growing up, we also hating dressing for winter, but that threat about "You're gonna catch a cold" was always hanging over our heads. But since it's become more known that a cold is actually caused by a virus, the parents now don't have any threats to make on their children.

they probably think it's cool to not wear a coat, they reckon all the chicks think they're harda**es if they 'brave" the cold.

1) This is certainly not all kids.
2) Hoodies can protect against cold.
3) I don't know why people do that, I think it's crazy.

I'm not sure about the context of your observations, but when I was in high school (in Connecticut) I rarely wore a jacket, but mostly because despite the cold, I never spent that much time outside. Thinking back, if all I had to do was walk from the bus/car to a building and then back, a few times a day, doing that without a jacket most times is worth not having to deal with the jacket when you don't need it. I'd wear one if I was going to be outside for extended times, but for quick walks from A to B, that ain't no thang.

Now, however, in college I wear jackets all the time - but that's because I walk EVERYWHERE. Different story. Trade-offs, trade-offs...
