drive from boston to phoenix to avoid snow?
Hi - I will be driving from Boston to Phoenix, and a storm just hit. If anyone has suggestions on how to do this successfully I would greatly appreciate it! I have a set of snow tires, but on a rear wheel drive car. I'm hoping someone can advise me as to the best route to avoid snow/ice. And, of course, we are trying to do this before Xmas. Thanks!

Oh, wow! Check the weather maps, storm after storm seems to be coming across the country so my advice is keep south, BUT in doing that you have to watch temps and for rain turning to sleet or ice.
This year has been totally crazy so far and no one is getting a break in terms of the winter weather. Are you leaving soon by any chance?

Update: The choices I've considered:
1 - 95/85 to 10
2 - 81 to 40 (drop down to phx somewhere along the way)
3 - 90 to st louis to 40 (least favorite, but google's recommendation)
Our big concern is how do we get out of Massachusetts - the Western part we think we're ok.
Thanks again!

Hey! I say take 95 all the way down to 10 in Jacksonville.......and just go all the way to Phoenix from there! Or.......you can take 95 to Richmond, VA and take 85 to Atlanta.....and from there get I-20 until it ends in West Texas and becomes I-10!
Good luck!

I'm not familiar with the first two, but definitely don't recommend I-90 right now.
