This may sound weird but I kind of wish I could take a short vacation out to Minnesota or Chicago just to experiance the cold, snowy weather. I don't think I've ever felt anything below 10 or 15 degrees, if that. I just cannot image what subzero temps feel like.
For someone who's not used to it, it hurts after a few moments. This is our first winter in Chicagoland, having moved from Southern California, and it's an unusually harsh one. Over in the Parenting forum, people are talking about 40 below as no big deal, but it is. My husband and I went out last night, and the wind was about 30 below, and oh my gosh. It's not crisp or brisk or chilly ... it hurts.
Wow, -40 would probably kill all my zone 6 plants even with snow cover!
The coldest it's ever been here was -26 and that was before I was born. Just hope it never gets that cold again or I'll have a lot of dead plants come spring!
Wow, now that is COLD!!!! I hope they don't have winds or their windchills will make it unbearable.
I don't think there is winds.....the only way it can get that cold in Maine is if it is a dry, clear, and calm night. That trio is what makes temps PLUMMET!

Oh so wrong! I lived in Aroostook County for almost 20 years. I can assure you it can get downright nippy at -40 or lower and have the blessed wind whipping as well. Windchills in the "Dear-God-this-sucks" range (-55 and lower), happens all the time up there.
