I like it cold up to a point. I like snuggling up with a nice warm throw watching tv. I also love the big warm shaker sweaters. I guess i just like being covered up more than being half naked in the heat. i don't mind the heat, but i don't like to sweat all the time. when its in excess of 100 every day, for months on end, yeah, it gets old fast. I always look forward to the 4-5 months of cooler weather in Vegas, and stay inside as much as possible with the a/c in the summer's here.

So far only 2 people hate the cold and one is Elfyum! Give me cold anyday! The topic should be renamed to "hot weather, why do 80% prefer the cold"
I cant wait to move out of south FL, the 10 months of hot weather sucks!
For everyone that "warns" me about the misery of cold, 4 others tell me im really going to enjoy the cooler northeast

I got plans. Going to get a house in the woods, get a new snow mobile and snow blower for the driveway, new chains for the 4wd. I'm already buying my winter coats and boots etc. Ha! S-c-r-e-w Texas and its miserable heat!

Wow! You're lucky to have such an agreeable wife. I would have told you to file and hurry up about it.
I do agree with you though that Texas is miserable. I start dreading the Texas summers already in January. I despise them so and wish it were easy to get the heck out of here, but it isn't for me.

bleecccchhhhhh....
I can't stand cold weather. Everything from those horrifically bulky winter jackets to wind chill to black ice to scraping my windows to snow to ice storms to colds/flu to gloves to feeling like a prisoner in my own home.
I'm sure I left some stuff out, but you get the idea. Warm weather makes me want to go out and play.

Maybe it's age?
I spent most of my adult life in Colorado, where it is possible to have snow as early as September and as late as late May. The driving, the shoveling, the cracked, bleeding fingers--yuck. It got old, and so did I.
I love the change of seasons where we live now.
It can get darn cold here, we had maybe 3 heavy frosts and plenty of just plain chilly days.
However--it began late (January) and is ending early (now).
The nights are still cool. Right now it's divine.

I love the cold and the snow. The colder the better for me! I tell people all the time that I tolerate spring and summer because I know that fall and winter are next!
I also have allergies, so the warmer weather is a miserable time anyway. The humidity is another story. If it gets too humid, I get migraines.

Well, for boat owners, winter weather is hated......unless they are snow skiers. For us, we are totally sick of the snow/cold weather. In fact, we are going to moving from the Denver metro area later this year and moving to the Charlotte, NC area because their winters are even milder than here. We love seeing snow at Christmas, but that is it now. Of course, since we are now older (58/59), our bodies just can not handle the winter like we use to.
However, we don't like HOT weather either, but temps in the mid 80's is just fine.

Simple: Cold hurts me, sweating doesn't.
Myth: Anyone can stay warm by putting enough layers on
*Layers only keep you warm when you're emitting heat, so if you have ears, fingers, toes, a nose that doesn't get warm, then layers will only delay your extremities dropping to near ambient temperatures.
If I can find a source of heat, like a chemical pack to shove into my boots and gloves then most of the problem goes away. This however is obviously not "eco-friendly"
For the heat:
- Breathing soupy-air poses no challenge for me; I practically have gills
- Even at 98 F, with light weight, breathable, light coloured clothing I only need the occaisional cold drink to keep from getting dizzy while doing light excersize in the hot sun.
- I dislike wearing long sleeved shirts and layers most of the time, but being half naked (t-shirt, shorts, sandals) is oh-so-comfortable.

A friend of ours, who lives in Phoenix, told us: "Living in Phoenix really is no different than living up North; you just stay inside different months of the year...

My guess is one of two reasons: they usually have a surplus of body heat and/or they like wearing long sleeves, maybe even layers.
I don't understand how most people could have a surplus of body heat, when I, a northerner both by blood ancestry and upbringing usually don't feel significantly warmer than the ambient air temperature.
I heard some people who don't like their appearance prefer to wear long sleeves to cover up, for that reason.
