Thanks.

^^ One of the benefits of being American.

One thing I really dislike is having slow periods for work which give me a few weeks off in a row,
yet because of the weather, very few of those days I'm actually able to enjoy.

My dad was a weather driven personality and I remember him being really cranky (not mean, just cranky) when weather was bad. He'd get one week off in the summer, we'd head to Upper Michigan where my mom was from and more times than not the weather wasn't great!

SPeaking of crap weather in summer, this year in early January, we went to Portland Victoria for a week and I swear to god, we had to wear jackets and jumpers everyday The low temp got to 1C on one of the days while the highs were around 16-17C

What a disgrace

The highs themselves don't sound bad,
but when I consider it's the peak temp and it take a while to warm, and will cool towards sunset,
I probably wouldn't like 18-20 of those cooler daylight hours....
Is that what bothers you most about a 16-17 C day too, SAB?

Mostly the fact that it was in early January, i.e. MID SUMMER.....

Most of the time,
I'm happy when I have the ability to ignore the temperatures.
At 15 C, long sleeves and something to do, it's really easy.
At 15 F, no amount of business lets me forget the cold.
*I think it's just an attitude developed from living with intermittent severely-cold temperatures.

WHAT?!?!?!?!.... (mid-summer? )
I would be throwing a wobbly with temps like that in summer.
Sorry mate, my mistake.

** 8 months a year, local residents are pleased when "there isn't significant cold."
But in the summer, complete absense of "warmth" would likely disappoint a lot of residents.
We expect a night-and-day difference between not only summer and winter,
but summer and spring or autumn as well.

SAB, we forget that your seasons are the opposite of ours. When we hear the word, "January", we think of the dead of winter.

Yup, me too. Summers are supposed to be ... summery. Nothing worse than coming out of months of grey, wet, cold winter and waiting for summer to arrive, anticipating all those summer activities and warmth ... and it never comes. It's depressing. I don't mind cold winters and four seasons, just as long as one of those seasons is a proper summer.

15F is just a touch of Norway, mate
It is the cold at -15F that really catches up to you out on the slopes
I am always prepared with my heavy duty gear whenever I am out in the back country. I usually hike with someone, but tend not to get lost as I am a geographer.

Trust me, I was depressed, angry and felt like staying in the motel all day, everyday. First day, it was blowing horizontal rain, then the next afternoon we went out fishing on the peir and had to be all rugged up because it was so freaking cold with biting windchill

Here, the members on the aussie weather forums LOVE every bit of cold we get, regardless of the time of year and the vast majority HATE summer heat and go into a meltdown whenever it hits 30C for more than 2 days in a row....e.g "oh heatwave global warming we're all gonna diieeeeeee" etc
