ok i'll be the outcast, i flat out hate cold i see no good about it in any way, shape or form.
have to wear tons of clothes, shake & shiver, snow & ice, your entire body hurts, it makes life 10 times more difficult.
forget about doing anything outside, and if you have to work out in it for 8 hrs just makes for pure misery.
i'm like an old bear, when it gets cool i get grumpy & it's time to hibernate.
i'll take heat any day over cold.
Agreed.
I only take the cold as a premium for snow. But if it ain't gonna asnow, then torch away!!!
I hate cold weather. Do not like winter at all. Moved to south florida this year and I will never live where I have to deal with snow, ice or endless cloudy, gloomy days again. I hate wearing bulky winter clothes and your car getting all iced up and the salt and other black shyt they put all over the road. I hated the dry winter skin and chapped lips. UGH!!! When I lived in Ohio I did not want to leave the house from Nov thru April- I could have literally stayed in bed the whole 6 months shivering under the covers. LOVE it here and the hot humid weather...finally I dont have to freeze. Love having to wear hardly any clothes. Love going to the beach in December. Wouldnt move wear theres winter again EVER.
South Florida winter is probably still warmer than spring, fall, and even most of the summer in Toronto (Southern Ontario bar Windsor). Given the choice, I too would choose South Florida over Southern Ontario (weather-wise). Yes, the 80s we're getting here during the 6 weeks of summer is probably nicer than their 100s, but I'd put up with 100s if it means not having to deal with the single digits and negatives, like ever.
I agreed with you entirely !
People who live in the warm place don't have the experience that we have, how harsh and expensive to live in the cold Canadian climate.
They only think if they can dress warm, then they will survive in the cold climate but completely ignoring all the work involved dealing the cold weather and damages done to properties, cars, roads, accidents ...
i, too hate the cold weather....theres no point to it...
plants dont grow. . things look ugly...its uncomfortable. its hard to enjoy the outdoors....
when its warm u can bask in the sun, swim, hike, get a tan, grow a garden, enjoy the nature in its green and lively glory
Exactly !
I composed a list of how harsh to live in cold climate, but after reading yours now I will add your point to my list: Plants don't grow, hard to enjoy outdoors ...
The following is a just a general information for those who never experienced cold, especially those who live in the tropics or subtropics ...
Roads in Canada (except Vancouver area) look ugly !
You wouldn't believe how ugly they are, that's what we those who live in Canada have to deal with for 3, 4 or 5 momths.
This is for those who live in the castle and dream of Wonderland ...
Forecast: Blizzard, snow storm ...
City: Have all snow ploughs ready but only plough major highways first, then main roads the next 2 days, then side roads last. Snow plough also salt the roads in Southern Ontario; Central Canada is even worse as salt is not good enough to melt the snow, so they use sand to provide friction, the roads in central Canada are like SKATING RINKS, and "wavy", it is absolutely dangerous to drive on those roads if not careful ! There's no Wonderland in the cities !
My car was skating on the road in Winnipeg, completely out of control and I am an experienced winter driver !
Roads: There's not enough space to store the snow, so the snow plough just pile the snow up your driveways, it's your responsibility to clear it yourself.
Aftermath: 20% of the roads are lined with snowbanks, 3 to 5 feet depending on area. The the snowbanks freeze, and hard like a rock. It's not Snow White ! It's mixed with dirt, debris, dark/white... Snowbanks stay in the city until the city has more man power and budget to clear it.
How: They use machine to cut up the icy snow banks and remove it slowly, usually at the end of the winter, say March. So the streetscape is left with these ugly snowbanks till March.
Spring: Spring clean up.
Who paid for it: Properties owners of course, the snow budget comes from property taxes.
There's no Wonderland in the city !
Florida is beautiful, beautiful royal palms lining streets ...
Canada has a fairly high quality of life and standard of living and is constantly ranked as one of the happiest countries on earth while Canadian cities (not just Vancouver but also Toronto) are ranked as the best to live in.
Canada is freezing but it appears majority of Canadians do not let the cold weather stop them from enjoying life

I don't dispute with you on this as I know Vancouver used to rank #1 according to the Mercer Report on Quality of LIVING (NOT LIFE), Toronto used to also rank #1 in the world before it became a mega city 10 years (?) ago.
But the discussion is: If given the choice, I would love to live in an ambient temperature in southern Florida, that's why I like to snowbird there, the best of both worlds.
I never said I liked the summer in Florida. I only like the winter in Florida.
But if I had only one choice living year round, I would choose Florida year round, I know it is hot, humid, huricane ...
Canada doesn't have a monopoly on winter weather. I deal with everything you've mentioned each year. I still enjoy winter despite some of the inconveniences it brings.
Keep in mind, Florida isn't all paradise. The state's economy is struggling, public education is subpar for the most part, it's hot for more than six month a year, goodness knows what kind of creatures you'll have to deal with, and to top it off, there's always the risk of getting your house flattened by a hurricane. I'll take some snow and ice over that.
