Tornado kills 3, injures 20 to 50 in southern Oklahoma; 2 other twisters hit state.


A large, violent tornado ripped through a southern Oklahoma town late Tuesday evening, killing three people and injuring up to 50, authorities said. Severe weather also caused damage and power outages in metro Oklahoma City and western Texas.

Thank you for the link, John. They've just now started talking about the fatalities on TWC. They're thinking there may actually be nine or more people who lost their lives in Lone Grove tonight. They finally got the name right cause they originally had "Long Grove" posted.

Just sad. And Edmond got hit pretty hard, too the way it looks, but Thank God it looks like everyone survived there.

Texas had a lot of storms and reported "tornadic activity" spotted, but thankfully, no one in our area was injured. Some houses sustained some pretty significant damage from what they thought were straight line winds.

NBC just showed some pictures in Lone Grove, a lot of damage there.

In Stillwater, OK, we were getting prettied worried for a while over the threats the storms were representing, starting around 4PM, yesterday. The radar was looking pretty ominous with a hook echo approaching Stillwater and behind it a mass of blackness for hail. So a tornado warning was issued for the county and tornado sirens in Stillwater blared. Fortunately, the storm cells, 3 or 4 of them all together, didn't end up doing much damage as they passed through. Neither did the hail get real huge, (marble sized) or at least not on my side of town. A newspaper report said the wind gusted up to 41 mph at city hall during the storm The rain amounted to 1.75", officially. It's always a great, great blessing to be spared the havoc and heartbreak a tornado produces. My prayers go out to the people in towns that did get hit.

Below is a panoramic picture I took of a portion of the west side of Boomer Lake in Stillwater. It was only shortly after noon yesterday and already it could be seen that strong signs of storms were popping up, readily visible off in the distance in northwestern Oklahoma.
