We have had record breaking cold and snow this winter from california to colorado to rochester and upstate new york down throught the mid atlantic and northeast, spring yet or just a teaser?
I miss the snow. Growing up in NY we had alot of it. I would like to move back to a place that has real winter seasons, and only 2 months of summer. After S. Florida, I have seen enough sun for a lifetime. I do love the beach though- (lol- maybe a beach on Juneau would fit the bill?)
It's been chilly, but nowhere really near 'recordbreaking', I was talking to my mom the other day and she noted that she was happy we had a 'real winter' for a change.
Winter has been....strange this year. We had an early shot of Winter in late November and early December for 2-3 weeks where temperatures were akin to the coldest of Winter, then found ourselves immersed in the "heat wave" that swept the rest of the country for a month or so til mid-late January where temperatures were routinely in the 50s, sometimes in the 60s and once or twice in the 70s. Things changed really fast then. The end of January was a "normal" cold January winter. February was absolutely frigid, around 15 degrees colder than average, with there being a period of two weeks or so where temperatures never reached above freezing (may not seem that odd to some people, but it is for the DC area where such spells generally last only a few days). March so far is it's usual mix and match. Some cold, some warm. It's always sort of all over the place. It snowed last Wednesday, was in the 60s by the weekend, is supposed to be in the 70s tomorrow, then down to the 40s by the weekend. Things are winding down though. For the most part, the frigid part of winter is over and all things considered, we got relatively little snow this year, maybe totaling around 12 inches compared to our average 25, and the first snowfall wasn't until the end of January and most of the rest fell in February, with only maybe five measureable snowfalls this year.
Its spring in Virginia as far as Im concerned. Normally this time of year we are more in the 60s not the 80s, though.
