So Miami and Hong Kong are two cities that are odd. Miami is technically located outside the tropics, yet it has a tropical climate, while Hong Kong is the other way around.

I think that the Gulf Stream caused Miami to be warmer than it should in winter while the Siberian High made Hong Kong colder in winter than its latitude would suggest

Do you know any other places with similar traits that are far away from those two cities? So places like Fort Lauderdale, Naples, Guangzhou, and Macau are to be excluded.

Hong Kong winters are cool for the latitude, the highs averaging only 18-19C at 22*N, but the lows are 14C or more, which seems to be normal for the winter season at that latitude.

Summers are flat out tropical with lows close to 27C and highs around 31-32C though.

I would consider HK to be tropical. Yes, the winter highs are low for the latitude, but the lows are still quite warm, and summers are pretty much a steambath.

Hong Kong is not tropical, that's a fact, not an opinion. Tropical climates have a coldest month mean of 18.0°C or above. That's roughly Hong Kong's average highs mid-winter.

That's according to Koppen's climate classification. But tropics is defined as the area between Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn and that's about 23.5 degrees from the equator. Hong Kong's latitude is about 22.5 degrees from the equator so it is within the tropics. But yes, its climate is not tropical and that is exactly the point of this thread.

There are many places outside the tropics with tropical climate .. Asunción, Rajshahi or Pitcairn Island come to mind. The most extreme case is probably Bermuda, which is practically tropical although located at 32° Northern latitude.

Bermuda just has warm lows though in winter, the highs are cold.

Bermuda is barely subtropical. Koppen's classification for tropical is a non-arid climate with all months having a mean temperature of at least 18c. In february, Hamilton's mean is 17.7 so it is technically subtropical but it is very close to tropical. Still, it is unusually warm for its latitude.

Exactly, I bet some people travel there thinking it'll be tropical swimming weather in winter
and are sadly disappointed. Has a seasonal lag too, imo beach weather only
from May to October.
