Born and raised in Birmingham, AL and I currently live in Alaska so I can speak from experience on both ends of the spectrum. I've experienced the coldest of cold winter and the hotter than hell summers. I would absolutely, positively, 100% prefer a cold winter to a hot summer, you can keep layering in the cold and there's only so much to take off when it's hot. It got really cold this past winter. I mean -20 and colder for a month. Yes, that was COLD! Stayed inside next to a warm fire and watched the snow fall. The summer before I moved to AK it was a scorcher in Bama. We were going through a drought and it was a summer nothing less than 105 degrees! THAT was a nightmare. Sticking to the seats of the car and getting burns on the back of my legs and melting within seconds of leaving the house. I don't miss that and won't be back. I love the South. The beauty, the people, the food. I hate the weather though and have really enjoyed having a white Christmas. Just my thought.

galveston/houston. so hot and sticky, and no real seasons. plus those fun hurricanes..

you can always put more clothes on when it's cold, but there's an obvious limit to what you can take off when it's hot.

The worst I've ever experienced is Freeport in the Bahamas. After walking twenty feet outside, I felt like I needed another shower. The only comfortable place is beneath the surface of the sea. Scuba diving there is extraordinary.

For the US, I'll give the nod to Houston. I was there once in late November and it was as humid and miserable as Detroit on the worst summer day.

You can keep adding layers, but you can't keep subtracting them.

Excellent points about adding layers of clothes, taking too much off at my age just isn't an option any more! I just can't imagine living with constant warmth, hot dry or drippy humid and that would be a long list of cities.

I cant stand Melbourne. Sick of the bloody daily cold and cloud which lasts for months on end. THe only thing worse is the idiot weatherfans who live in this antarctic outpost who want to be even colder, cloudier and rainier for longer

Minneapolis. I'm sorry, its a great city, but definitely the worst weather in the country. Honorable mention for Buffalo, Syracuse, and anywhere in Montana, North or South Dakota.

Maybe in the winter if you don't like cold. But the summers are great! Winter is a solid 4 months too, not the 6 or 7 people like to play up.
