I don't believe him, first it was supposed to be a hot Summer, then when it didn't start out hot it was supposed to be a cool Summer, but now its starting to warm up and be more Summer like. I don't believe in long-range forecasts now after the ones regarding this Summer. Also I think an El Nino means that a warmer Winter is coming.
It could be a snowy winter but it could also be a winter with some days in the 60's, 70's and 80's which happens like every year.

As to winter... I think it will be near average for temperatures in the East with average rainfall in the Northwest. I do agree that El Nino will not play a very large role in the overall weather pattern across the US this winter.

I don't like it either...
The best looking forecast shows "warming period followed by cool"
Enough with this "cool weather" nonsense...
I want lasting warmth/heat.

A weak El Nino usually means a cold winter east of the Rockies. Another thing working for cold is the lack of sunspot activity. We are still at the solar minimum. Another item of note is that it has stayed rather colder in central and eastern areas of Canada with warmer weather shunted off to Alaska.
If the North Atlantic Oscillation and Arctic Oscillation stay negative most of the winter expect to see extreme cold shots in the Great Lakes and New England.

If Jammie has a brutal winter she might just head to Myrtle Beach with all of us "snowbirds"......
I'm hoping they have a better winter then the last too!

So am I. They weren't exceptionally brutal though. Our winters just are never that great.

My tomato plants are about half the size they would normally be this year because of the crazy weather we've had. It's just unrelenting this summer! UGH!
