My favourite cloud around here would be thunderclouds over the sea and "flashflood" clouds that are quite common to the east of here during summer -first two photos

Least favourite would be grey stratus that lasts for days - last photo

I LOVE the big fellows.... the huge Thunderheads looming and rumbling before a T-storm. Of course here in San Diego we rarely get them; but i enjoy seeing them in the distance when it rains in the inland mountains. Really magnificent when seen from a plane; like giant whipped cream castles!

Second favorite are "Mare's Tails".... those curling wispy clouds, so delicate looking.

Least liked is the thick smothering gray marine layer... just lays there covering the sky for days, neither hot nor cold, no sun, an oppressive and colorless world

HATE: Low clouds/fog

LOVE:Cumulonimbus, the puffier they are, the prettier. Cirrus are beautiful too.

The soft looking fluffy clouds that accompany mild foehn conditions are pleasant to look at. Common during winter here, they generally mean a warm afternoon. These photos were this afternoon, when the temperature was a pleasant 18.7C after a low of 1.3C.

There is just about always one or two "rainbow" clouds lurking nearby at the same time.

Do they occur with Foehn conditions there? I only rarely see them in summer here, mostly late autumn through to late spring. I think they are just a poor formed Lenticular cloud.

More than likely - they only seem to form when the wind is coming over the Pennines.

As you say, they appear to be poorly-formed lenticular clouds.
