Here in the high desert of Arizona AC is turned on a little later in the day. We aren't seeing the 100's, now it's the mid 90's. I can almost smell the Fall.

Meteorologically, the months of Sept, Oct, and November are considered 'Fall' - and Winter: Dec, Jan, and Feb. etc.. etc.. That is not to be confused with the 'Astronomically' reckoned calendar.

Here in the valley.. I always think of 'Fall' being Nov & Dec. 'Spring' as Jan & Feb. The rest of the year.. Summer. March has brought us 100 degrees.. but usually stays quite nice. At times early November has been quite warm. The World Series in 2001 - the 'November' series.. it was pretty warm here.. mid 90's.

Our leaves are starting to turn, whether from lack of water or being time, who knows with this weird weather year..

Our temps are back into the 90's but looks like rain might be increasing...October is usually a very soggy month for us and that is when it really 'starts to smell like Fall' to me.

I usually consider it --Fall---after the first killing frost.

However, around the 1st of Sept you start noticing a different " feel" and things start looking different even though it is still green.

Maybe the angle of the sun?

I notice lakes have a much deeper blue color to them than in the summer months.
Also , regarding that " feel" , I also noticed it when I was staioned at NAS Whidbey Island Washinton.

It really had nothing to do with the temps either.

I didn't realize you and I live in the same "state".

Our nights are getting cooler, too, but fortunately our nighttime temps have been well above average the past several days. We'd be down to 51 every night if it was average.

Today definitely feels like autumn and there's no reprieve in sight.

To me, Fall begins when the days are still warm, but you begin to feel that crispness in the air during the evenings and mornings. When this weather pattern begins, the leaves begin to turn a little yellow, and before you know it, the whole landscape is filled with a variety of colors.

Our leaves have not begun to change here in Denver, but in the mountains to the west of us, the leaves are changing and will be at their peak colors in a week or two. I'd imagine that our leaves will start changing here in Denver in late September/early October.

Another indicator of summer being gone is the shortness of daylight.

We have gone from the sun rising at 5:20 to it now rising at 6:49
It used to set at 9:12, now it sets at 7:42.
