I'm struggling to make a decision based on weather issues only since I hate both extremes. I remember the Pheonix area as a really unpleasant place to be, while I don't remember having a sense of unpleasantness in Minneapolis. I hate feeling like a wet noodle in the summer and I hate freezing my butt off in the winter. With high temps of 95 plus for all but one of the past 40 days in Grand Junction, CO, I'm tired of summer heat, so righ now Minneapolis is more appealing. Keep in mind, my answer to the same question in January after a few below zero mornings, is likely to be different!
Based on weather alone, I'd probably have to go with Phoenix. I can tolerate heat better than I can cold, and while Phoenix summers are absolutely horrific, the other 8-9 months of the year aren't bad at all and winters are beautiful. Minneapolis on the other hand, has short spells of nice weather but nothing really consistent. In the summer when it finally gets warm, you must contend with the bugs and the humidity and somewhat frequent cloudiness and rainstorms.
For the record though, weather is the only area I'd rank Phoenix above Minneapolis in.
I wonder if the results of the voting would have been very different if it had been held in the middle of winter! Cold weather sounds great right now, but in February, everyone would be tired of it.
The hot weather in Phoenix brings in alot more low lifes. No soft people move into Minnesota due to the weather. I find places with mild climates have more crime and other social problems.
Minneapolis, without a doubt. I think I'd die if I lived anywhere where it doesn't snow at all. One recent winter had about 25 inches of snow here, and I just about died! I couldn't handle it. I prefer slightly warmer, snowier winters to biting cold, not quite as snowy winters like Minneapolis, but I can tolerate cold weather. I would never be able to tolerate 100-110+ degree temperatures almost every day like in Phoenix in summer. I would even choose Minneapolis's hot, humid summers over the 90-100 degree summer days we have here.
I also like the extremes more. Much more rain and fog in Minneapolis, TONS more snow, more t-storms in more months of the year, etc. Minneapolis climate is superior to Phoenix climate in every possible way.
if the only choices are Phoenix and Minneapolis than i would choose Minneapolis, beacause it gets summer and winter, Phoenix only gets summer. I always lived in a cold climate so i would be used to Minneapolis weather. It would be weird not getting snow in the winter.
