We are getting snow tomorrow night (3-4 inches). The cold air is just taking its time getting to the coast.

Snow in the forecast for tomorrow here in North Jersey.

The high elevations received a couple of inches of snow back in October, but this will probably be the first snow event that affects everyone.

"Big Cold Snap" coming to the British Isles this weekend - with my location supposed to be getting several days staying below freezing, and then some snow.

What I don't understand is the incredible passion for cold everybody on UK weather forums has. Like back in February 2009 when the major snow in the south east happens, the forums are record busy, with idiots getting hard ons about snow, frost and "severe cold" and ramping up this cold spell.

I will still never understand what there is to enjoy about cold. Slippery, dangerous frost, ice, snow etc...Huge heating bills... having to dress up in all types of crap to survive... sheer physical pain from being subject to a dangerous lack of heat energy. BS.

The "novelty-factor" might interest me if I was there, but so would any U.K. heatwaves.
Do heatwaves get less attention?

The AO is forecasted to be far in the tank as well as the NAO. This should mean that the weather pattern will be cold and stormy in the East. However, the GFS does not show any cold outside the realm of normality for the next 16 days However, the pesky southeast ridge appears to be back with a vengance by the middle of the next week

Newark, NJ (mid-sized city about 5 miles West of NYC) just submitted to Old Man Winter, they're now at 31 degrees, first freeze of the season.

Meanwhile, 20 miles East/Southeast of Newark, NJ we're in the mid-30's (for now).

Dropping into the teens tonight here in NW NJ. Not getting out of the 20s tomorrow.

Today it was around 35 degrees, but it was frigid with the wind!

We're chilly here! 3 degrees and -12 wind chill! NOAA, and several other sites say 3 or 5!

Have to buy a new outdoor thermometer, it says 20 and I think it said 20 all day yesterday, too!
