Also, I cannot move somewhere else because I may not like the weather. My husband's job has us tied to this area so going elsewhere is out of the question. I hope NOAA and the drought monitor are wrong.
So has NWS/NOAA been accurate about their predictions thus far? How has December been in the Ohio valley regarding snow totals and moisture levels? According to the long range maps, it is predicted that your part of the U.S. will have a dry winter & spring ... but I hardly ever believe the NWS on their long range predictions because they are seldom correct. Just like here in the SW, we are supposed to get a wet winter, but it certainly hasn't materialized thus far. Phoenix has had one of its driest years on record, and there are no storm systems on the horizon for at least the next week.

I agree 100% with your statements about not being able to stand long periods of dry, sunny weather. I live in the sunniest city in America, and it really does get monotonous! You are also correct that weather & climate should not be the main reason to live someplace. Other factors like jobs, wages, cost of living, and the political atmosphere of a certain place are more essential.

There are certainly signs of El Niño ... especially in the Pacific NW & parts of Canada where snowfall has been less than normal (at least that's what they're saying in reference to the upcoming Winter Olympic games). January was wetter than normal here in the SW thanks to two huge storm systems ... but we really have to see what happens during February, March, and April before we truly call it an active El Niño.
