Mid-30s at night, mid to upper 40s during the day in Sacramento.
Fortunately, it doesn't get too cold here. We had a week of low 20ish degree nights in December, that was it, and that is about as cold as can be expected here.

In Corvallis (OR) we got down to a breath taking 8 degrees F. I've seen worse here but not since 1989. That was back in mid-December. So far, this January has been running above average with most of the anomaly in night time temperatures. Yesterday, for instance we had a high of 54 - and a low of 52.
The real suffering continues to be in the upper Mid-West and Deep South. Some Gulf States stations may see 30 year low temperatures by Friday (1/8). The New England States and New York will also get frostbitten but not as badly with respect to climatology as the South or Mid West.
Parts of the Rocky Mountain region have also seen very cold temperatures on a consistant basis. Grand Junction in Colorado finished off this past December about 14 degrees below its long term average and January doesn't look appreciably warmer as yet. Elko and Tonopah in Nevada were running 10 and 6 degrees below average respectively and Cedar City UT saw a relatively balmy 5 degrees below seasonal norms.
Something interesting to note....At least I thought it was interesting. Several climatologists believe the warmest recent period in North America occured from the late '20's to about 1944 (this is just North America) but during that period there were three cold blasts for the ages. One in February 1934, the other in January and February 1936 and a brief cold spell that abused Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan in mid November 1940. This last one was also accompanied by serious snowfall and affected much of the nation east of the Rockies. In all three of these, several state wide cold temperature or snowfall records were set that remain unbroken today.

I guess Mother Nature did not get the memo from Al Gore about global warming.

Cool thread!!! I don't drink warm beer, but I agree with it being time for hot chocolate. It's been this way for weeks now.
Nov. was decent here, but Dec. and early Jan. has been a bear. Our temps may only be about 15 to 20 below avg., BUT the windchills have been something else. For instance~right now it's 9 degrees, BUT the windchill is minus 13. Not pleasant out.

We're under a blizzard advisory right now in western MO. The school I work for has been cancelled for the past two days, and we will likely not be in session the rest of the week if the predictions are accurate. It's all the way up to 18 degrees right now, which is much warmer than it was yesterday. An arctic mass is supposed to move in around midnight, though, and bring it down to about 5 or so.
Hot cocoa is wondrous with a shot of peppermint schnapps mixed in. Toasty!

cold enough! When I came home this morning I got right into a hot bath. I added another layer for tonight--a shirt...sort of like a long john shirt...under the T-shirt under the flannel under the sweatshirt.
Under the jacket under the sleeveless parka.

It's so cold here in Texas that the Polar Bear at the Ft. Worth Zoo committed suicide.
It's so cold here in Texas that the cows burned down their own barn, just so they could lie in the hot ashes.
During Christmas, it was so cold and snowy that I saw a Jack Rabbit spin out and go into the ditch. Two Coyotes dragged back onto the road and chained him up so they could chase him some more.
