"Devon in south west England is experiencing unseasonal heatwave temperatures today with this unprecedented record of 48 degrees centigrade, which is some 9C higher than the British record set in Kent on 10th August 2003. It is believed that the temperature suddenly shot up to these surreal values when persistent cloud that has been affecting the peninsula for the last 500 years suddenly parted, causing the sun to be seen for the first time in half a millenia, according to a spokesperson. Met office forecasters have started receiving much ridicule for their seeming inability to accuractely forecast such a disastrous outbreak of heat for an area not used to such temperatures, particularly at this early time of the year"
