Chongqing gets like 1000 hours but that's including pollution. That's like western Scotland!

How does the region manage to be so wet yet still so sunny in summer? And why is the pattern different to places like the East coast of Australia?
Late summer can often be sort of..gloomy..when extreme humidity causes haze and clouds to build without a abundance of rain. At least the gulf states are like that in August-early Sept.

I checked the NOAA stats against last night and saw that most Southern cities got at least 9-10 cloudy days per summer month, which again leaves me with my head scratching. It a month is roughly divided into 10 cloudy, 10 partly cloudy and 10 clear days that sounds more like 50% sunshine. 50% sunshine is not 9 hours it's closer to 7 hours.

I can't imagine living down there. I find the summers here in New Jersey bad enough!

This week seems to be the typical April preview to summer. High might reach 87 this week!

80s through Thursday. Thankfully cooling back into the 40s and 50s this weekend.

Isn't it great?

I hope this means we're gonna have a hotter than normal Summer since March was above average too.

Well, last April was very hot, and look at the summer we had.

But this warmth does seem to be a pretty steady trend. We're overdue for a hot summer anyway. But I hope its cool like last summer.

I can attest for Lamplight's comment....I used to live in North GA (which is farther south than mid-TN) and yes the summers are BRIGHT and relentless...but at least they end

I'd like to know definitions of "partly cloudy", "clear", and "cloudy". For example, 20% of the sky is cloudy, is it clear or partly cloudy? 10%? Or if the day is almost completely cloudy but sun comes out for half an hour, what kind of day is it?

0-30% clear
40-70% partly cloudy
