Why are modern computers such pieces of sh&%t?
I recently spent £160 on this pile of crap this year and about £200 getting it fixed last year, as well as numerous upgrades in 2008/2009, since I bought it in 2006. I can't afford to buy a new computer. The first Winblows PC I got in 2002 lasted only 8 months and required two new hard disks, then my computer in 2003-5 was a piece of crap that only lasted about 5 seconds before needing a component upgrade, I am 100% sure that these computer component manufacturers make inferior rubbish to break down on you just to make you buy more products.
In the 1980's we didn't have this problem. Computers were bloody expensive, such as the Apple Mac SE. BUT, they worked. In fact, there are plenty of working examples today, 25 years after they were produced. They never crashed or had component problems like modern PC's do. They could last decades.
Modern computer "technology" at least for PCs is failure prone cheap kiddies toy garbage and doesn't work properly.

Modern computers store more so are more prone to crashing.
Pretty much like iPhones, I bet most people don't even use them to call, they download apps and music and pictures and games.. they're bound to crash eventually.

Well I don't even bother with these iPhones and smart phone thingies. They seem to be an endless distraction and very (paradoxically) anti-social. I have an old fashioned brick like Nokia and it does everything a phone need do.

I already have a few computers, I don't travel a lot, and I have very little phone traffic, so for my lifestyle a smartphone is an unnecessary redundancy. I do have a Kindle Fire that was practically handed to me for a Christmas present, and I occasionally find it most convenient to use it. Again, it doesn't justify the expense, but if it's a free gift...
As for cell phones, I purchased a cheap but functional cellular phone in 2009 (a "flip" design), and it does everything I need a telephone to do (and a bit more). So like you I've stuck with my original purchase (at the time I hadn't had a cell phone in a few years).
However, going back from this tangent to the original post, what Dunno said about the technology sounds about right. After all, a simpler machine with fewer components is less prone to failing, but at the same time a more complex machine can do more.

No work today or tomorrow to distract me, so I'll just sleep away life's problems.

I love my Nokia flip phone. My only complaint is the crappy photo quality, but the phone serves its main purpose.

Can't believe I've just spilled my drink all over my room. In my slippers, all over and in the carpet, all over my electric plug and wires, on my poster of Heathrow Airport in the 70's, even my underwear got a bit wet. I could have early onset Parkinson's disease.
