Gross. I preferred seeing this bird out my window (back in college):

Ditto with bear.

The Met Office has 1500 employees.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute has 600 employees.

The Met Office has an annual budget of 95 million €uros.
The FMI has an annual budget of 72 million €euros.

Finland has 5.4 million people, the UK has 63 million people.

How can you spend so little money on meteorology? No wonder your predictions are always off the map.

I think it takes a bit of lateral thinking to see the accuracy in the met office forecasts.

When they all sat down to discuss what was causing our cold, wet summers that was when I realised we were in for a warm sunny dry July.

They're not always off the map - they're pretty good for here, slightly overestimating minimum temperatures though, because they seem to forecast minimums for the centre of towns and cities. They got it pretty much spot on today - reached 29C, forecast high of 28C. Forecast minimum this morning was 16C, it was 16.7C.

Not my point! Despite the UK is a vastly larger country, you guys spend only 23 million more on your meteorological agency than tiny Finland does.

We spend 13€ on meteorology for every person living here, you spend 1.5€!

You measure air quality, we send equipment to Jupiter.

And why did you decide to bring this up without any provocation? Bragging rights? The Met Office serves the purpose it was originally designed for, so we're all content with it.

I wasn't provocating anything or had no intention to brag. Well, maybe I did a tiny bit. I just found those numbers surprising...

Surprising, that was all of it.
