Our lows drop to 16 C or lower about every third day in January.

Speaking of which, check out our forecast:

9 / 16 C
10 / 15 C
12 / 19 C
13 / 19 C

Drizzle every day. This has to be a joke... surely? :cry ing:

(Yes, ilovemycomputer90, I know it looks like paradise to you. )

(all in southern Vermont)
My preference, in descending order, would be:

1) Mostly sunny with a few big, puffy clouds (I like the contrast of white again blue)
2) Blue dome
3) Half cloud, half blue sky with the sun mostly unobscured by cloud (so still sunny even though much of the sky is cloudy)
4) Even mix of cloud and blue sky
5) Mostly cloudy but with sun frequently peaking through gaps in the clouds (god rays, etc.)
6) Overcast but with big, scary looking thunderclouds
7) Overcast, slate grey stratus.

Gosh, you're right! You may as well be living at Vostok Station!

Christchurch on the other hand is seeing nothing but scorching hot temps and endless sunshine (today's high was a dangerously hot 15 C with a staggering 0.0 hours of sunshine!):

Christchurch Weather - NZ Weather Forecast Christchurch from MetService.com

Fri: 9 / 15 C
Sat: 11 / 17 C
Sun: 13 / 19 C
Mon: 13 / 21 C

All of which are forecasted to be overcast with drizzle.

I don't know why this even upsets me anymore... I should really be used to it by now.
I learnt that in ChCh you need to expect the unexpected.
Summers were always more disappointing though given the high fluctuations. I don't recall it being that cool in summer although you've had a few 30C days recently...

Is it worth a drive down to Ashburton or mid/north Canterbury - not sure how much that'll improve your outlook?

This afternoon the satellite map at about 3pm showed the entire east coast as well as nearly all of the rest of the island under low cloud - certainly nowhere in Cant. Plains or even foothills would have been much help.

Damn typical, a bright and sunny day in Buxton but down in Manchester it's just thick fog that's not going to clear.

Yeah look at Australia Day, 42C for Penrith.
Thank God it is a Public Holiday, as I work in Singleton in the Lower Hunter Valley, which is also forecast 42C. !
I was also lucky to escape the place on New Years Day 2006, 46C and topped the state.
I won't be anywhere near that place on that day, and will most likely go to Nobbys Beach for the day.
