Default Hate sunny days

I know how weird this is. I think growing up in Chicago, where it's overcast or partly cloudy much of the year, probably affected me somewhat. I can't stand how sunny it is in Houston almost every day. I go outside and feel blinded and my skin always feels like it's burning (mildly). I've even tried sunblock. I can never understand when other people comment on how nice it feels to lie out in the sun. Does anyone else have this aversion? I wonder if there is a racial component to this? I have brown skin and most of the people I know who are raving about the sunny weather are white....maybe that's just a coincidence. It would make sense though, evolutionarily that white people (i.e. people who are originally from places without as much sun) would gravitate to sunny days since they are rarer in their countries/continents of origin. I'm probably just making that up though.

I'm white,
and when I tan I notice a subtle difference in how much hotter the sun feels
after I've tanned then before I tanned, with similar weather.

If I had to estimate,
it feels like I can absorb 50% more sun heat with a darkish-tan,
for any given set of weather conditions than compared to areas of my skin without much tan.
Or in other words, my un-tanned skin seems to only absorb 66% of the sun heat that my dark-tanned skin can.

I can understand if you're "quite brown" how Houston sun might be annoyingly-hot,
as I typically sub-tropical sun "quite intense, but nice" in terms of thermal comfort.
I enjoy very-hot sun, as long as it isn't hot enough to burn.

Wearing navy-blue coloured work clothing for safety purposes on a calm, sunny 80 F day,
I was surprised that whenever I turned around and a piece of sun-heated navy-blue fabric touched my skin,
it was burning me.

Mostly,
I think it's because white people's skin doesn't physically heat up as much in the hot sun as darker people's,
though I think I would prefer to be naturally darker for extra sun-safety.

Now that I think of it,
it's amazing to me that most black people I've seen in Caribbean don't seem to mind how hot their sun is.

Well I'm white and I hate being in direct sunlight for long periods of time, including when driving. I work outside during the summer and develop an unwanted tan. I think it's recommended that we get 10-15 minutes of sun a day (not sure of the exact number).

Although I prefer cloudy weather, admittedly the sunny weather we've been having hasn't been so bad. Then again, I live in an area where I know cloudier days are not too far ahead, so I guess I can deal with it and even enjoy it, despite my curmudgeoness after endless sunny weather .

How new are you to Houston? I HATE sunny days too, BUT only when it's over 80°F. When it's cooler than that with low humidity, I don't mind the sun.

You should come here then, to Buxton where we have had no sunshine so far this May. Only a couple hours a day or so but at times you can't even see it like early morning and thick heavy cloud the rest of the time, complete with drizzle.

We also have temperatures about 3-4c below average too at the moment.

I think me and I Love North Carolina are in the wrong city, haha.
I have been here for about 3 years, and I don't think I can take it too much longer...even the "winters" are sunny. A dream come true for most others, I guess.

I think the comment on absorbing sun makes sense...that's what I'd been wondering. Haven't heard any concrete science to prove it yet.
