I want to say mine was somewhere at the 3000 or less mark around 13 years ago, and I'd never do that again. Second hand store all the way, or private sale from someone else and have it custom tailored.
Now I have 45lbs of Austrian crystal bedecked gown and separate heavily beaded train that takes up space in a dry cleaner's special box in my garage. I have no kids and no plans for any, so it was a total waste of money!

I plan on making it a group effort between my mom, grandma and great grandma, if I even decide to get married at all. I don't plan on wearing white, and I'm hoping that I can buy a cheap vintage dress which we can alter to match my personality.
My parents both wore their prom outfits when they got married and I always thought that was sweet
Ehhhh....I hate the price of the ones I like. Spending a lot on something you use once...but its an experience too....ugh....I have no idea. I would probably end up just getting what I loved.
I wanted to stay in the $200-300 range, but the dress I wound up buying was $600. I was simultaneously happy I got a dress so cheaply compared to some people I know, and a bit sad I spent so much. But I loved the dress.

You can always have it made into something, like decorative pillows, blankets, mantel scarf. If you celebrate Christmas, then a tree skirt and stockings are an option.
It was well worth it. I paid for it myself. I was certainly no maiden on my wedding, and my husband and I paid for the entire wedding ourselves. I knew exactly what I wanted, and that's actually why it cost so much. We just weren't two kids getting married. We were already established professionals; entertaining clients, coworkers and family is an expensive past time.
Another idea about the crystals, if they are beads, you can cut them off and sell them. Or have them made into something you like! Australian crystal is expensive. I've made several things from salvaged jewelry.
The only reason I saved my dress is in case one of my daughters wants it. If not, SOLD. What do I need it for?
