In JDawg's defense, she stated her wedding was going to be more than what her parents could afford, but that doesn't mean her parents are footing the entire bill. JDawg and her Canine Companion might be the ones paying the remainder of the bill.

Agreed--I took her post to mean that other people were pitching in.

^I didn't initially read it that way, but can definitely see how one could. I'm curious to know the answer.

Perhaps so, but that isn't much better. If you're choosing a wedding so elaborate and over-the-top that it taps out the folks -- And you're doing so to keep up with the Joneses -- then it's really time to reassess.

This is one of the best comments that I have read in ages (it refers to a bride spending more than her parents can afford)!

Sure, but I don't know think we know the financial status of the people who will be contributing. If they have a chunk of money to blow and are comfortable doing it, there's no reason to castigate her.

If she is having a lavish wedding that will bankrupt somebody because it's It's All About Me(TM), then yeah, that's pretty icky.

I realize that, but I'm just stating what I consider to be expensive relative to someone's financial situation. I realize upper middle class people foolishly spend half a year's income (or more) on a wedding.

You americans are lucky to have parents pay for your weddings, college tuition, rent, etc. it's quite common. I remember watching this american show called Pawn Stars and I got surprised to see all these men sell stuff for their daughter's wedding, for their children's tuition, rent, etc.
