Default What do you consider expensive for a wedding?

"On average, US couples spend $25,631 for their wedding. However, the majority of couples spend between $19,223 and $32,039. This does not include cost for a honeymoon. Understanding wedding cost now can help you with your wedding budget later." - Average Wedding Cost $25,631 - Wedding Budget vs Real Wedding Cost

"New York, where the average cost of a wedding is $65,824, is the most expensive city in the United States to get married but many couples will spend about $27,000 to tie the knot and that doesn't include the cost of the honeymoon." - Average cost of U.S. wedding hits $27,021 | Reuters

So it's now typical to spend around $20,000 - $30,000 for a wedding ceremony, and much more in large cities.

An "expensive" wedding would obviously cost more than this.

What is your idea of an "expensive" wedding, both qualitative and quantitative? How does it differ from an average wedding?

In my area I'd say an expensive wedding is anything more than $100/per plate when taxes and gratuity are included. Mine is more like $80. Because the size of a wedding varies so greatly, I think the averages are pretty meaningless. Of course a wedding of 200 guests will cost more than a wedding of 40. I'm having a nice wedding, but there's nothing significantly fancy about it.

Can't just name a price and say that particular wedding was expensive.

$10,000 spent with 50 guests is a whole different critter than $10,000 spent with 200 guests.

If you ask anyone, it's roughly $10,000 more than they spent on theirs.

An expensive wedding would be anything that is beyond what a man can afford.

Exactly. For me I would not want to spend more then $5,000 for the 40 people that I think we would want at our wedding. $5,000 would be a good number, $10,000 would be way to expensive. Even though it isn't even half of what the average wedding costs, it would still be too much for me to spend.

So that means it can be a spare no expenses type of wedding?

I don't think it should matter who is paying, there is always going to be a point where the wedding is too expensive. Unless your parent's are allowing you to try and one up the royal wedding, I'm sure even they have a wedding budget in mind.

It depends where you're from. $60k is CHEAP for weddings here where in other areaS, that's expensive. Whether or not we can afford it, it's a keeping up with the joneses mentality. My wedding will cost way more than what my parents can afford but thats just hpw it here with weddings.
