One of my favorites
Ménage à Trois
Though it might not be the best choice for an engagement party

I agree with "6ofus," she said the pino and I think that's a good choice.

I was invited to an engagement party in December. It was the daughter of my sister's "fiance" (They are in their fifties and have been engaged for about eight years, lol.) But, he is like part of the family so even though I'd only met his daughter at his parents' funerals, I went. Nice party, wine and beer, DJ, good food, in a VFW-type hall. I gave her some cash in a card, but I suspected I'd end up being invited to a shower and a wedding for someone I hardly knew, so I didn't go overboard with the cash gift. Wedding was set for this fall.
Then POOF, she's pregnant and there's suddenly a quicker, smaller wedding in June. I didn't get invited to either the shower or the wedding, and I was glad. Hope she's happy! I'm wondering if I'll get invited to a baby shower, though...that would be OK. My sorta-BIL's first grandchild.

You could always throw in some scratch-off lottery tickets. Add a note, "Here's hoping you're feeling lucky!" Hehehe.

Okay, go to the craft store (one that sells fabric). Ask where the "fat quarters" are and choose a print you like. They are basically fabrics cut 18" x 22" in size. Get some ribbon and a nice piece of card stock with print that coordinates with your fabric.
Set your wine bottle in the center of the fabric and gather it up around the neck. Tie with ribbon. Take your card stock and cut it into a 2" square...write a personal message on the blank side. Punch a hole it in, slide some ribbon through and tie it to the neck of the bottle.
Cheaper than buying a $4 card and your gift has now been personalized.

It's scheduled for July 7th and I decided I will tell him I can't make it. The only thing I;m buying right now is food with the little bit of money I have left over after paying rent.
I guess my family never been to a engagement party because all of them told me I only had to bring a bottle of wine.

I thought the same thing about the card, that's why I didn't suggest it, LOL. Also, what "mightyqueen" said is good if you do end up going with the card option. didn't think of the lottery tickets.
