Basically the topic. I'm planning a wedding in several months. I'm not sure the best way to find the person to marry us. We don't have a church we go to regularly but we want a religious ceremony. Meaning the traditional way like umm in movies? We found a few people online but they are pretty expensive. We are pretty broke and are barely making the funds to pay for our wedding (Rule out family assistance). So what is the typical road to get this done?

Do you have a church you go to at all or have one you visit? Are you or he of a certain denomination?

Haven't been to church in years. My job is very demanding. Random days off every week. I use to go to a small building for worship but haven't been to church in forever.

Maybe you need to first figure out what kind of ceremony you are looking for. Just Christian? In a church? Or were you more on the side of Catholic? Are you used to a Baptist preacher?

There are a lot of variables.

Christian. But also an outdoor wedding is what we're going for. We already have a location. She is agnostic so the religious type wedding is more my wishes. It doesn't need to be a priest. Just someone who can perform a similar type of ceremony.

Oh, ok. So really first the two of you need to agree on the type of wedding.

I know I want mine to be more of a religious type but my SO would probably be more comfortable with it not, so we will have to have a happy medium. If he is totally against the church wedding, I will understand. I do not even want a big wedding, he does.

You have to be on the same field before you go making arrangements.

We already agree. She's fine with whatever I want. A religious type wedding doesn't bother her. She just wants it outdoors which doesn't bother me.

Actually, you have several months to remedy this. Either start going to a church of your choice. Or start asking co-workers, friends who they would recommend. You could also check the phone book, news paper adds...check w/ various churches for names and referrals. Interview and select.

Is there a Justice of the Peace (JP) that would do it?

I have no idea. I'm not sure who to call to ask. Never been married before.
