I'm going through this dilemna right now. I just cannot find a dress I like in the shops - not to mention the prices are absolutely through the roof. So I've been looking online; first as a reference/ research then as a potential serious buyer. There are LOADS of online Wedding Dress sellers. Then of course, you have EBay, Craigslist, Amazon (yup), Etsy, etc, etc. When you dig a bit, you'll find most are coming from China. I picked one dress, did all kinds of searches for it, and came up with a price range of >$1,000 to <$200, for the same dress! Now, rationale would tell you it is just not possible to get the same item for that type of difference. The feedback I've received is as diverse as the prices, from "Absolutely Thrilled" to "Terrible Nightmare & a Scam". Luckily, my wedding is planned for November 2014 so I have some time to play around. I'm thinking it's worth a shot to order the dress direct from China, in a standard size, and see what I get. For <$200, you can go to a seamstress, have the dress altered & still be ahead of the game. According to others, some of the Chinese will deal with you regarding material and size, etc. If you do use them, they usually have reviews/ feedback. Also, make sure you can get your money back.

A friend of mine ordered a dress from China for $100 but then spent $400 on alterations.
I got mine from David's Bridal, found it on their website, but went into the store to try it on and order it. Good thing because it was a size bigger than what I thought I'd need. It was on sale for $299 which was even better.
