At my daughter's upcoming wedding all family members who are coming from out of town and will be there the night before are invited to the rehearsal dinner. This was her fiance's family's decision they are paying for the dinner. It will be approx.100 people at the rehearsal dinner.

Me and my mom just got back from an out-of-town wedding. We are from IL and traveled to TX. We made it into a "vacation" too. But anyway, thankfully we were invited to the rehearsal dinner! And I agree that is a little weird that they asked you to use their number for rewards themselves. Sounds like an expensive hotel! Anyway, it just so happens that *ahem* SOMEONE in our family decided to write a nasty email to the groom's parents complaining that they wanted to stay at someone's house for free! It's like HELLO if you are going to gripe about the cost, then DON'T COME!!!! That's how I see it! (that's my little rant lol). I hope that they were appreciative of you traveling for them!

Rehearsal dinners are pointless unless you actually need to rehearse something, and guests do not.

Thinking about it, having to rehearse for your wedding really does highlight the fact that it's just a production. Glad I didn't do that.

I remember my brother and his ex-wife's rehearsal dinner. My ex-husband and I had arrived in southern Mexico that afternoon after traveling from northern England to London to Texas to Mexico. We were exhausted and jet-lagged and the change in climate was messing with both of us (it was snowing in England when we left and in the 90s F in Mexico). So we're looking at a 3-hour train ride, a subway ride across London, another train ride to the airport, a 9-hour flight, another layover, a 3-hour flight, and a 1-hour van ride.

All we wanted to do was SLEEP, but we sat at the table nodding and green from nausea and fatigue. I found out the next day that my sister-in-law-to-be's family thought our "conduct" was "outrageous and rude." The rehearsal was only an hour or so after we checked in to the hotel. Oh, and did I mention the hour-long drive from Cancun to the resort in a van without air conditioning? They were lucky neither one of us fell asleep or barfed at the table.

Whatevs.
