Went to this wedding where they had 75 cocktail food items including sushi, crab cakes, muscles, prime rib, rack of lamb, cream cheese salmon, octopus salad, turkey, every kind of salad, shrimp, lobster rolls, mini burgers and hot dogs and every single item imaginable and some passed around on trays and some at booths and variety of every sort

Then a band plus DJ plus 5 course meal for every single attendee and 200 people and constant vibrant entertainment ...with filet minyan and massive cheese plates and

Unlimited drinks and if you want something else they make it from scratch instantly and immediately

And then

Just when people were wondering besides the 3 massive wedding cakes what dessert would be added, a massive wall opened up and a room twice the size of the regular ballroom with fireworks and laser fountain lights came out and inside was desserts for as far as the eye can see and on top the fountain, chocolate and butterscotch and vanilla dippings and a fondue bar, spiced banana bar, crepe bar, and Belgian waffle bar, Napoleon, mousse, strawberry shortcake, key lime pie

I can spend the rest of my life putting money away for 60 years and still can't afford this.

What do I do?

You do nothing!
Really.

They had the wedding they wanted (and presumably can afford).
You have the wedding you want and can afford.

Weddings are NOT to compete.
Weddings are NOT to impress.

You have some skewed ideas about what weddings really are about...

Is this a joke?

You're obligated to do NONE of that.

Are you engaged to someone who expects something like that?

Well that is just over the top. You do not have to do what other people do, you do what you can do.

Did you go to a Kardashian wedding?

I recently got married, and people are still talking about how lovely our wedding and reception were, and we spent 1/50th of the wedding you just described.

At the end of the day, you're still just as married as the next person, whether you spent $1,500 or $150,000.

You can have a nice wedding and not spend a lot. For example many times relatives will offer the make food, or the cake and decorations can be DIY, etc.

Why on earth would you waste that much money on just one party? Spread it out over the next 150 years and your grand kids will be toasting your memory long after you're gone.

Are you and your fiancée competing on "Four Weddings"?

In all sincerity, if you can't afford to spend that much, don't. (How do you even know they could really afford that? The could be very well putting themselves in the debt you've already described. It's not what you spend but how you'll feel afterward (the happiness of being with the one you love).

And hopefully they'll stay married after spending $150k. (What a waste that would be!)

But the wedding venue was unlike anything I've ever seen. Best party I've ever attended

Not sure I understand the question. What does that event have to do with YOU? Did someone doubledog-dare you to one-up that wedding or something? Did you lose a bet? What?
