Not crazy at all!
Both of mine did their own (My son even designed a font for all the events/correspondence).
That is the norm around here. I cannot remember the last engraved wedding invitation we got....
I made mine on Vistaprint. Chose the design and wording, and got invites, enclosure cards, announcements and address labels for $80. And they arrived 2 days after I placed the order. I highly recommend this if making your own is going to be time-consuming/frustrating.
If I was going to take on something DIY it would have to be at much greater cost savings. In the grand scheme of a wedding, $80 was money well-spent, IMO.
If you can get a good deal through groupon, go for it. But, you are not crazy to make your own invitations. I made mine. I found an invitation I really liked from a store and made it myself at a huge savings; they wanted $6 per invitation! I spent about $1.50, so that was a huge savings. I was lucky that I had access to a laser printer so I could print on metallic paper, which I loved.
We are going to do the kit approach. We found some great looking ones at Michael's that were on clearance so we got them for super cheap. I think like $25 total for 100 invitations. I'll be using the printer at my work to print them so it should be fairly cheap and easy for them after all is said and done.
I got the groupon. What I am going to do is use the groupon for a save the date and probably make my own invitations.
Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a plan!!! I am going the opposite route!!! printing save the dates through Wal-Mart and using them for invites!
