I am marrying my long time best friend in July. It will be second marriages for both of us and we have lived together for 20 years. I am 50 and he is 59.

Not sure if all of that is relevant How many brides still take their husband's name? Is that still the norm?

Hmmm. I think pretty much anything goes regarding changing names when marrying. I think among younger, first time brides taking husbands name is still mostly the norm (but not exclusively so). Among second marriages between older or professionally established brides, I'd guess it's more common to keep (at least socially/professionally if not legally) their names. Also if there are minor children involved a woman marrying for the second time might keep the same last name as her children.

Do what you feel comfortable with

Thanks. I just can't decide. All children are grown but having the same name would make it easier for medical issues etc. as we get older. IDK…my name is so easy, lol. His I have to spell every time.

How so? I didn't change my name and I don't anticipate it creating a problem with medical issues. We're married, what do our names have to do with it?

Just so there are no questions if it is an emergency that I am his wife. We each have power of attorney but we may not have it on us in an emergency.

I have read that in the United States, between 80 and 90% of women will take their husbands last name. I'm getting married in July and my fiancé told me (her choice) she is going to take my last name.

Yes I think most women do change their name….if only his wasn't hard to pronounce and spell, lol. I tried to get him to take mine. That would be so much easier.
