I love veils & before covid changed our plans, I was ofc planning to wear one. BUT...now that we have changed to an intimate & romantic ceremony on the beach, do you think a soft veil & small headpiece works with a super nontraditional wedding dress? Or leave my hair long & natural with a wedding clip? My sister thinks no veil & a french braid updo with flower clips. I know that’s super popular for a beach wedding....but it’s not me. I’ve been looking at so many pictures today of beach weddings & hairstyles AND I’m no closer to a decision.

Do what's you. To heck with what anyone else does. Who cares what's popular? No wedding police are going to show up and fine you for not following some fashion trend. You'll be married regardless of what you wear.

FWIW, I went to a tiny rural town wedding where the bride wore a purple fake feather boa from the local thrift store (that boa had been worn by many over the years...sort of a town tradition), a short white dress whipped up on a vintage Singer over a day or so, and Xtra Tuf calf high rubber boots. Groom wore a blinky lights bow tie, top hat, anonymous jeans (at least they were clean), and his own matching pair of Xtra Tufs. They wore what they wanted. This also happened to be a beach wedding and it rained sideways. Everyone had a fantastic time and no one cared what anyone wore or didn't wear...raincoats covered it all up anyway.

The take away here is that it really shouldn't matter to anyone but you. Why does this have to be so hard? So much of the self-imposed angst over weddings is ridiculous and unnecessary.

I agree.

Whatever, you want to do is best.
Short veil? OK
No veil? OK
Flowers in your hair? OK
Fancy hair clip? OK
Regular hair style? OK
French braid or chignon or up-style hair style? OK

Long Veil? OK, but, IMO, may not look as good for a beach wedding.
Fancy, large tiara or crown? OK, but, IMO, may not look as good for a beach wedding.

However, the perfect long veil or tiara/crown may match your dress and personality very well.

But, it is your decision what to do.

It’s not angst...I’m just having fun trying to decide & I want to look good for my fiancé & the pictures ofc. I know I’m not solving world hunger.....edit: but this is a wedding forum tho....so why is my question ridiculous or unnecessary?

Ita...a long veil isn’t right for the beach or my dress....tho I was asking short veil or no veil. I don’t do tiaras or crowns. AND...my dress is super non traditional...nothing princessy about it.

Fashion aside, I just think about the ocean breeze constantly blowing the veil around and having to contend with that during the ceremony and photos. Depending on the way the wind blows, it could be blowing in your face.

Ita....so I have been looking at short & flirty birdcage veils. Some of them only cover the eyes or just past the nose & the clips or hair pieces come in all kinds of styles so it would be super easy to accessorize my dress. I still haven’t made up my mind tho. I just love the idea of leaving my hair long & no veil on the beach...but my hair could also blow in my face so a short veil might help IMO.

Most beach wedding photos I see have a very long veil or no veil. I suspect that the shorter veil would fly into your face more when the wind blows. There is less weight to keep it down.

This is what I was thinking when I read your question. A nice short one would look cute, and wouldn't be subject to the wind.

I was married on a beach many years ago, and didn't have all the online resources. So I didn't wear a veil, because I didn't wear a traditional dress and it didn't occur to me. It must be fun, but confusing to have so many ideas to choose from!

I don't think a short veil would do anything to control long hair blowing. IMO the short/birdcage veils go best with an up-do and they look out of proportion with a long 'do.

Ita about my hair Kat....so I’m deciding if I wear my hair long with no veil...or up with a short birdcage veil. It’s not the veil that would keep my hair in place tho....it’s the do & the headpiece with it.
