What is your definition of an acceptable monthly fee?

A lot of the newer condos were built to be luxury, or they have a lot of amenities so the dues are higher.
If you want to stay South Tierra Verde, Renaissance Commons, Canterbury, and a few complexes on the intra-coastal would fit what you are looking for. Some of those are townhomes.
It's a little further North but Legacy Place would be a good fit. 13-1400 sqft units with some real nice amenities, and you can walk to shopping/restaurants. Little over 2 miles to the beach though.

Not too close to the beach. I'm not finding any recession bargains within 2 miles from beaches. seems the only 'deals' are way inland. right?

The intracoastal complexes are pretty close to the beach...
Yacht club, mariners cay, tuscany, bayfront are a few that are "deals". Used to sell in the mid 2's to 300's now you can get a unit 150 or under.

The listings I posted above are within 2 miles from the beach.

As skylinet points out, the best bet are developments near the intracoastal, just across a bridge from beach access. There are newer developments, but the fees are much, much higher.

Bargains are to be had, but you'll have to travel much further inland than two miles.
