P.S. How does Delray compare in all of this~? I think it is a great city, and not as busy as PBC traffic was when I was there.
I love Delray. But forget west Delray - those people are older than dirt and are in wheelchairs with their ***MOD CUT***
caretaker wheeling them around that their out of state families have hired. Downtown Delray is pretty expensive but just east of 95 they have condos that are pretty reasonable. Gotta have the move-in money though. With good credit you can get in with first and security plus app fee.

Supposedly Mark Twain never actually said that "coldest winter was a summer in SF" thing.

Well I don't know who said it but whoever did nailed it. I used to travel there occasionally on business and every time I went it was rainy and cold. Yet on these "places rated" studies it consistently comes near the top for the weather. Not for ME!

Come to think it, not even all of Boca. Plenty of people living in Century Village in Boca and THEY aren't rich. That's true in alot of the 55+ communities. You don't have to be rich to live in south Florida, ESPECIALLY if you are older - it's a pretty good deal actually - affordable, no state tax, a beautiful place and a warm climate - that's why they HAVE so many old people there.
That exists all over, Boca, Delray, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and etc...homes at $750k+ Yes, sure there are areas here that are more affordable and with the dropping home prices this is becoming even better. It does take money to live it the McMansion style, big expenses, taxes, property taxes, HOA fees sometimes $300+/month in some exclusive communities it's even higher. There is a active adult community in Wellington called "Buena Vida", google it and see what it cost to live there Some places charge a country club fee per year, I know of one place in Palm Beach Gardens that has cheap rents, then when you read the fine print you realize you need to pay $$$$ a year for mandatory country club membership.

Sure you don't need to be rich to live here but it sure helps make it easier. You can live pretty cheap out in Belle Glade if you desire.

Yes, I am aware of places like that, like Broken Sound in Boca and Boca West in Boca. Makes it COMPLETELY unaffordable for sure! But still, there are others that are..

Even better, there is a country club community in Boca, with some decent condominiums to be had for under 20,000.00. However, you also have to buy a 70k equity golf membership!

yes Miami. Many live in private islands or close gated beach front communities. They never interact with the other half, have private jets, total different lifestyle and most people don't know they even exist. Naples also has a lot of wealthy people.

I agree with the playground comment. It always amazes me how I never bumped into people I know during certain events A lot of people that spend money here are from somewhere else.

I agree with your friend! Of course, I don't like any weather other than tropical. And I am of the age where I think it makes some sort of sense to move for the weather. However, I still need to work, and that is what concerns me the most about south Florida - the economy is worse there than most states and all the jobs, well, the low level ones anyway, go to those from other countries. I know they have a ton of con artists, but I finally got street smart and they won't affect me any more (after losing thousands of dollars I might add).
