I'm a 44 y/o white female on a fixed income.
Ideally, I'm looking to live about half an hour from Boynton Beach but no more than an hour away.
I've never had to pay electricity, water, etc, so I'm pretty much at a loss.
At a loss of where to start, I made a list of towns between Pt. Saint Lucie & Hollywood (N-S) and Belle Glade to the coast (W-E) and went to work with a demographics site (
http://www.city-data.com/city/Florida.html ). So far, I've narrowed things down from 52 towns to 25.
After all is said and done (rent + utilities), I can only afford about $750 (should I get a box and newspapers now???)

No, have you even looked? Of course, 600 per month is going to get you in some sketchy areas so you have to watch. But that was my search. Look for a studio that includes utilities. Or carriage house on a property, something like that.
