I have been living here in South FL for over 20 years and each year it feels less and less like the holidays. I just about lost the holiday spirit sad to say. I do celebrate it spiritually, but the feeling of the holidays totally eludes me here in South Florida. Do others feel the same?

Many do, because they hold on to am expectation that Christmas comes with cold and snow. Accept that the climate is different here and create new traditions and cues for the season.

Welcome to America...for it is not only Christmas that has lost it's holiday spirit...it's all the major holidays...take Thanksgiving for example...you have Black Friday...stores opening at 6AM Thanksgiving day for 40 hours straight...etc...etc...and you question where is the holiday spirit??? What will Christmas bring...long return lines...bigger sales...more fights and stabbing...WOW...what will happen next???

Lack of holiday spirit - a personal issue
You may be right about it being a personal issue for part of the reason. However, coming from the North east I remember the more picturesque Christmas type typical scenery. It is just not the same for me when the weather, scenery and atmosphere feel the same every day all year no matter what holiday is. , I believe the culture is changing all over also The sales and shopping and commercialism are taking over the real Christmas spirit IMO. I do not really get the spirit until I am in church on Christmas Eve which is what it is all about anyway.

I think the "picturesque" scenery that we think of though is in fact a product of consumerism.
Billions of people do not live where there's cold weather, conifer trees, snow, etc. at Christmastime. Look at South America and Australia, for example, which are having their summer now --- and always --- during Christmas.
I think you just have to adapt the traditions to the climate. For example, Christmas boat parades and Palm tree decorating.... or sea themed Christmas décor.

Ive been stuck doing work for school for the past month so I agree, But once I am done tonight I will get more into the spirit. I am going to Orlando the night. It "snows" on Maine Street in the Magic Kingdom
Head over there if you want some serious Christmas/Holiday stuff. There are a few places around town in Miami that have it too. But I will say it is better done up North.
The it has to be cold for Christmas thing is really a European, Northern U.S. Canadian thing. Remember half the world it is
summer right now for Christmas.

It may as well be the 4th of July for all the slinkly lights they put on the palm trees. Been here 7 years and only spent one Christmas here with my kids coming down from NY. Once was enough for all of us. I don't want to be here and they don't either. "Maybe a vacation in February, Mom, but YOU come here for the Holidays". I agree, and I would rather go North in February too.

Lack of holiday spirit - a personal issue
Head over there if you want some serious Christmas/Holiday stuff. There are a few places around town in Miami that have it too. But I will say it is better done up North.
