I would like to sell my house early 2015. It is a beautiful house except the darkness in living room. It was built on 1987 and the shingle roof was replaced 4 years ago. I would like to install a skylight to make it easy for sale. However, my husband said those skylights will leak eventually and it not worth all headaches especially with the new roof. Any solutions or suggestions? Thanks.

I just want to know how likely it will leak eventually. One person told me he installed himself 20 years ago and not leak. Other 2 has leak in their home.

+1 on the solatube. Skylights otherwise look very out-dated

Obviously some leak and some don't.. it would just be too much of a nightmare if it did.
The few people I know who had ones that leaked never got the leaking to stop.

They are outdated and not something I'd want in a state known for hurricanes.. makes no sense.

I have Skylights in my rental and hate them. My air condition runs constantly because the skylights are focusing all kinds of heat into the family room. I feel like a bug under a magnifying glass. HATE THEM

I would not recommend installing skylights to make your home more marketable. Look into some overhead lighting instead. Paint the walls a light color. When it is time to show your house make sure all the lights are on before buyers arrive.
