Was in Boca Raton recently while on vacation from NJ (Greater NY).
Considering Boca's wealthy reputation and visuals to match, why does it have an overall per capita income of just over $47,000?

For example; there is a very generic upper middle class suburb in NJ; Hillsborough that basically matches Boca Raton in per capita wealth. The town of Palm Beach on the other hand(same county), has a per capita income almost four fold that of Boca. So the large aged population theory looses credence.

It's an affluent area but not Palm Beach or Jupiter Island. There are plenty of average people earning typical low SoFla wages trying to make a go of it there.

Boca has flash in cars/homes but outside of the short flashes there are plenty of poor people!

Boca has a ghetto, it has trailer parks and plenty of regular people that live in 150K homes and drive Kias!

Palm Beach doesn't have a ghetto or a trailer park.......

In addition to the reasons listed above Boca has a large number of retirees who have assets to fund their standard of living but not necessarily a high income. They move here with money in the bank and pay cash for their homes. They don't need a large income to live nicely.

Boca is larger and there are a range of incomes there also, so the median is different

When you refer to Palm Beach, i am assuming you are talking about Palm Beach Island.

There is plenty of wealth outside of the Island within Palm Beach County.

I'm not surprised actually. The ones with money are retires where income is not calculated. Everyone else is just normal to above avg in terms of income.

Many who live IN Florida are living on a Pension & SS. Incomes vary, they don't carry a big mortgage. They planned ahead, otherwise Boca can be pricey. Upscale area with great quality of life.

THIS!

The misconception that "everyone" in Boca is wealthy with big money just amazes me.

There're more people with big egos and attitudes there than big money.
