I am looking for an apartment or condo near the downtown area (where I will be working) I am looking for something for under 1k a month in rent in a safe area. Any apartment or condo suggestions.

You might find something driving around in Grandview Hgts. I saw a couple smallish but cute places with signs. One yellow house with a pool renting out an apartment in the back. But I forget where. Go east on Belvedere and turn left on Georgia. When you get further down start looking on the right, it's there somewhere ...and a few other signs. I think downtown is tricky for under 1K. Check craigs list but watch out for all the scams. Go look at realtor dot com there are several but not all in walking distance to town. A couple really cheap studios too like 650 lol. Sapodilla has one for 1K, Belvedere park has a whole house for 995 here's one on Flagler right on the water
1527 S Flagler Dr # 202-0, West Palm Beach, FL, 33401 - MLS ID#R3012745 - Rentals real estate - REALTOR.com® (http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/1527-S-Flagler-Dr--202-0_West-Palm-Beach_FL_33401_1108456471 - broken link)

Also dont be afraid to offer less. My son lived on O st and the next door house had a sign for rent for months. asking 1200 I'd offer 950 and see if they take it. 600 block beige house.

You can find 1 bedroom condos in most of the downtown condo buildings at or below 1k.

Check out listing on Craigslist for:

The Edge
The Whitney
The Prado
Cityplace Tower
Courtyards at Cityplace
Rapallo
One City Plaza

Also, some of the neighborhoods just south of downtown have cottages and guest houses as runswithscissors mentioned above.

My son saw several of those condos they were really nice. If he didn't have the dog he'd definitely have chosen one. They would have taken the dog but because of her giant size it wouldn't have been very convenient and any accident from her would be MAJOR....lol on the carpeted hallways.

Yeah, trying to rent with a dog is always a problem in these buildings.

I had an 80 lb. dalmation and lived in the Metropolitan for a year... he was grandfathered in just weeks before they changed the rule to "less than 30 lbs."

To be honest, he was sweeter, QUIETER, and a lot better behaved than the hordes of 5 lb. "yip yap" dogs that the old ladies in the building used to walk around with!

I think the Strand downtown has a farily liberal dog policy.
