There are a verity of grass specifically developed to thrive in tropical climates, such as Bahia and Zoysia.... These grasses do not require any extra care or maintenance, just proper soil, nutrients and pest control, that could be organic or store bought... Watering once a week is enough...Keeping my lawn healthy and trim is just as satisfying as caring for the, plants, fruit trees, palms and shrubs...

The reason for that is because of the Everglades. The Everglades is not just some National Park, it is vitally important to the state of Florida. The Everglades and a lot of people in the South Florida area share their water supply. (Lake Okeechobee) If people are watering their lawns with cannons, it takes away water from the Everglades.

It's not that people cannot water their lawns, it's that when they have a serious, SERIOUS drought like what is happening this year, there are severe restrictions put in to place. If everyone carried on using water like they normally do, there is NOTHING left for the Everglades.

That is why that poster said it was illegal. At this time, yes. Not all the time.

Great post, GatorMama!
I'd only like to add that in Lake Worth there have been watering restrictions of 1 day per week, between certain hours of morning or evening, for years now. No washing of vehicles is allowed, either.
