To all that may be in the line of the storms, be safe and prepare now. My son and his wife and my grandson are in Boca.. please do not take these storms lightly. We were in Punta Gorda in 2004 when Hurricane Charley hit. Nobody was prepared for that storm.

We are in Boca and just hoping the storm shifts to the East...If not then we are trouble...we are only here 2 years and so far have been very lucky..

I think it will skirt the coast of SFL unless it turns further east and maybe off to the Carolinas. If it is gonna swing into the state, I think it will be north of WPB, see:

Sandra Shaw and Felicia Rodriguez have the latest details on Hurricane Irene, which is now being projected as a Category 3 storm by the time it reaches South Florida on Thursday.

Even if it is off our coast, I believe they said the tropical storm winds extend something like 150 miles, so we still might get some winds, so don't forget to pick up your patio furniture, and other light stuff outside up and bring it inside. I think my husband was the only one at the gas station Monday buying extra fuel for the generator when they had it coming right for us. May look like a fool, but at least I'll have some electricity and water (I have a well so no water for us if the power goes out).
