This is kind of a wierd question but do you have to be 55 to live in a 55+ community? It is just my wife and I and we are looking for a nice gated community with a community pool and exercise area. We are also looking for quiet. Do they allow people under 55 in the communities?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Some do. There is a certain percentage that has to be 55 plus for the designation. I looked at one for myself years ago, but it was like heavens waiting room and that made me sad.

I know the ones in Boynton Beach the new construction developments are Beautiful and not heaven's door as we went to go check them out and the people aren't old old as my parents are a young 69 and 73 as they live in an adult community in NJ and well lets just say they have some active life...When we went to look here for them all those developments do require 1 person to be 55 or over....

I think that they allow a certain percentage to be under 55, at least where my parents live, that's the way it is. Also, for those not in that percentage, only one person of a couple needs to be 55. I would ask around for the specific community you are interested in. I believe some are more flexible than others.
