Hello,

My friend's son is looking to rent a home with at least 2 bedrooms and 2 baths in the Boynton Beach area. He has been to a few realtors, but nothing is available. He has not had luck with Craigslist, because he is not sure if they are forclosures which are trying to be rented.

His roommate has two large dogs, so he needs a fenced yard. He would like the rent to be less than $1000. Is this feasible?

Thanks for your help.

No....it's not at all "feasible". Two people, two dogs, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms....?
For "$1,000" per month? It's not 1972 anymore.
Our area isn't like that. Sorry.

Thank you for your quick reply. He cannot increase his budget by much. He does not want to go into debt, which I admire. What areas nearby can he start searching? There have to be some places where people making less than 25,000 per year can live.

I do realize it is not 1972. But the young man is a recent college graduate that needs some help. If it was an easy question, with an easy solution, I would not need to come to online experts in the area to ask for assistance.

I do welcome any suggestions anyone can contribute as to where to look. If it is truly not feasible, what should he do? Where should he look?

You won't find anything in a nice, safer area at that price. Even the nicer apartment complexes that accept dogs, your easily in the $1400-$1500 a month range. If you can find one, the rental market is tight now.

You can try padmapper.com, just keep in mind most private by owner rentals will require 3 months rent up front.

He might want to try Port St Lucie, or find a new roommate. Two dogs are going to make it tough to rent anywhere especially in the lower end of the rental market.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check it out.

He does want a relatively safe area, but he is a pretty big guy, so he can handle some "iffy" areas. When he was in college, he lived off-campus in a not-so-nice area and did not have a problem with it. Also, since he is just starting out, he does not have much of anything worth stealing

A $1,000. budget is quite low. Maybe as a parent you could help him with a portion of the rent.
2 dogs will usually cause them to have to put up extra for a bigger security deposit.
